ADHD - Can Yoga Help With ADHD Symptoms?

ADHD stands for attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity. There are many symptoms associated with ADHD including nervousness, anxiety, lack of focus and hyperactivity. Yoga has been shown to be an effective mind and body therapy to manage each one of the symptoms above.
Yoga as a discipline has been around for thousands of years and has recently been having a revival of popularity. Its blend of stretching, relaxation, meditation, and advanced breathing techniques have helped millions of people worldwide leave stress and anxiety behind. A recent study determined what was already assumed, yoga did in fact produce a significant drop in hyperactivity, anger, and tension. The study also revealed that those who were the most dedicated to their yoga routine (example: additional sessions at home) experienced an even greater reduction in these symptoms.
During and after a yoga session participants heart rate decreased while breathing slowed. Learning the art of slow, steady, relaxed breathing during times of anxiety is perhaps the greatest benefit that yoga therapy delivers for those with ADHD.  When breathing is relaxed more oxygen is able to make its way to the brain, leading to better concentration and a heightened state of alertness. This benefit occurs in all people of all ages, regardless of their prior ability to focus.
Anxiety or stress is a part of all of our lives, but can be particular damaging for those suffering from ADHD. Stress can become particularly severe for adults at work or at home. Stress which is magnified in ADHD children by the structured dynamic created by the classroom environment can make homework difficult to complete. Struggles to interact with other children (one of the major symptoms of an ADHD child) may be exasperated by a strictly structured school environment. These two factors may partially explain why yoga classes for kids are now being offered in some elementary schools and studios worldwide.

As to whether yoga can help those with ADHD symptoms it seems a compelling case can be made for its benefits, both for adults and children. In addition to yoga many natural health advocates are suggesting homeopathic remedies for ADHD symptoms relief. Homeopathy has been shown to be effective in relieving ADHD symptoms like hyperactivity, erratic behavior, and lack of concentration without the potential side effect dangers presented by prescription drug mediations.
